Turkey's daily power consumption sets new record on August 3

- Daily electricity consumption of 1.13 million megawatt-hours on Tuesday smashes previous record high

Turkey's daily electricity consumption increased by 4.90% to 1,133,609 megawatt-hours on Tuesday compared to the previous day, breaking the previous record high set on July 31, according to official figures of the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Wednesday.

As temperatures continue to rise and electricity demand increases throughout the country, a new record high was set on Tuesday, superseding the previous record set on July 31 with 1,087,592 megawatt-hours.

Hourly power consumption peaked at 54,458 megawatt-hours at 16.00 local time (1300 GMT), data from TEIAS showed. The country's electricity usage dropped to its lowest level of 37,312 megawatt-hours at 07.00 local time (0400 GMT).

Electricity production amounted to 1,143,711 megawatt-hours on Tuesday, marking a 4.87% increase from Monday.

Turkey's electricity production from natural gas plants constituted 36.6% of total electricity consumption, hydropower plants contributed 18.4% while imported coal powerplants comprised 15.6%.

On Tuesday, Turkey's electricity exports amounted to 14,456 megawatt-hours, while imports totaled 4,489 megawatt-hours.
