Türkiye's energy import bill up 124% in May

- Country's crude oil imports decrease by 1.5% compared to May 2021

Türkiye energy import bill increased by 124% to $6.94 billion in May compared to the same month of 2021, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Thursday.

The overall energy import bill soared last month due to an increase in global energy prices and a revival in economic activity post COVID-19.

The data shows that the overall import bill, including energy and other items, totaled $29.58 billion in May, with energy accounting for 23.4% of the overall import figures.


The country imported 2.97 million tons of crude oil last month, down from 3.01 million tons in May 2021.

Crude oil imports showed an 1.5% decrease compared to May 2021.
