Turkiye's energy import bill increased by 135.1% to $7.78 billion in April compared to the same month of 2021, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Tuesday.
The overall energy import bill soared last month due to an increase in global energy prices and a revival in economic activity post COVID-19.
The data shows that Turkiye's overall import bill, including energy and other items, totaled $29.48 billion in April, with energy accounting for 26.3% of the overall import figures.
Turkiye imported 3.01 million tons of crude oil last month, up from 2.56 million tons in April 2021.
The country's crude oil imports showed an 17.6% increase compared to April 2021.
