Turkiye's energy import bill up 160.5% in December 2021

- Country's crude oil imports increase by 45.9% compared to December 2020

Turkiye's energy import bill increased by 160.5% to $7.17 billion in December 2021 compared to the same month of 2020, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Monday.

The overall energy import bill soared last month due to an increase in global energy prices ahead of the winter season.

The data shows that Turkey's overall import bill, including energy and other items, totaled $29.07 billion in December, with energy accounting for 24.6% of the overall import figures.


Turkey imported 2.98 million tons of crude oil last month, up from 2.04 million tons in December 2020.

The country's crude oil imports showed a 45.9% increase compared to December 2020.
