Turkiye's energy import bill up 236% in January

- Country's crude oil imports increase by 43.6% compared to January 2021

Turkiye's energy import bill increased by 236% to $8.82 billion in January compared to the same month of 2021, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Monday.

The overall energy import bill soared last month due to an increase in global energy prices.

The data shows that Turkey's overall import bill, including energy and other items, totaled $27.84 billion in January, with energy accounting for 31.6% of the overall import figures.


Turkey imported 2.60 million tons of crude oil last month, up from 1.81 million tons in January 2021.

The country's crude oil imports showed a 43.6% increase compared to January 2021.
