Türkiye's electricity production decreased by around 1.4% in April 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, the latest data from the country's energy watchdog showed on Friday.
Total electricity production rose to around 22.23 million megawatt-hours (MWh) in April 2024, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) announced in its electricity market report for April 2024.
The country produced electricity from several sources: 33.3% from hydroelectricity, 15.6% from imported coal, 14.6% from wind, 11.8% from lignite and 10.1% from natural gas.
Geothermal, biomass, solar power, hard coal, fuel oil and asphaltite generated the remaining share.
Electricity consumption this April also increased to around 19.25 million MWh, marking a 4.8% rise compared to the same month the previous year.
Installed electricity capacity rose by around 0.9% to 96,163 megawatts in April 2024, relative to April 2023.
Natural gas power plants comprised 25.5% of electricity installed capacity, while hydropower and wind plants accounted for 24.8% and 12.5%, respectively.
Imported coal, lignite, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, solar power, hard coal, asphaltite, fuel oil, naphtha, LNG and diesel also contributed to the installed capacity.
