Danish firm Vestas has been appointed as the preferred wind turbine supplier for Nordseecluster 1.6-gigawatt wind project in Germany, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
The project consists of four offshore wind project sites in the German North Sea, north of the island of Juist.
Vestas will provide 104 of its V236-15.0 megawatt offshore wind turbines and service the Nordseecluster project under a multi-year operations and maintenance (O&M) service contract.
The project will be a joint venture between RWE and Northland Power.
Nils de Baar, president of Vestas Northern & Central Europe, stated that the company will increase energy supply security with two key partners.
'Once completed, the Nordseecluster will contribute significantly to adding clean electricity to the German grid, this agreement also shows the competitiveness of the V236-15.0 MW wind turbine for projects scheduled in the second half of this decade.'
