China requests Russian gas beyond contract volumes

- China wants further supplies via Power of Siberia gas pipeline beyond contract volume of 38 billion cubic meter per year

China seeks further Russian gas supplies beyond the contract volume agreed between Russia's Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said in an interview on Rossiya-1 TV channel on Sunday.

'Our Chinese partners are showing great interest in increasing the supplies beyond the volume, which we outlined in the 30-year contract,' Miller said.

In May 2014, Gazprom and the CNPC signed a sales and purchase agreement for gas to be supplied via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. The 30-year agreement provides 38 billion cubic meters per year of Russian gas to China.

In February 2019, Miller said the construction of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline for gas flows between China and Russia was ahead of schedule, with Gazprom set to start supplies to China on Dec. 1, 2019.
