Top officials from Ukraine and the US discussed Kyiv’s defense needs and energy security over the phone on Thursday.
The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, said on Telegram that he underlined the importance of responding to Kyiv’s defense needs through continued support during a phone call with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
“It is very important that Ukraine’s partners continue to provide effective support in ensuring the defense needs of our state in order to respond appropriately to future challenges,” he also said.
Yermak added that he recalled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statements after meeting with his US counterpart Joe Biden in Washington last month, which touched on the importance of creating an effective air shield for Ukraine, further claiming that Russia seeks to use the cold “as a weapon of mass destruction against peaceful citizens.”
Yermak said he and Sullivan also discussed further coordination in guaranteeing Ukraine’s energy security, adding that he also informed Sullivan of the current situation in the front line and Russia’s possible actions in the coming months.
He also expressed his thanks to the US for its understanding of the current situation and its willingness to continue supporting Ukraine.
