- Project is part of "LNG2AFRICA" initiative that aims to supply LNG to other African countries with limited infrastructure

Equatorial Guinea will construct West Africa's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage and regasification plant with two German companies, according to statements from the firms.

German companies ESC Engineers and Noordtec said in a statement on Tuesday that they have worked closely with Equatoguinean contractor Elite Construcciones on the design, development and construction of the LNG project in Equatorial Guinea.

The project will transport LNG from Malabo, on the island of Bioko Norte located on the northernmost part of Equatorial Guinea, southeast to Akonikien on the southern border of Equatorial Guinea's mainland, according to a statement by Elite Construcciones.

From there, LNG will be put into regasification for storage, and distributed to various power stations around Equatorial Guinea, to help various industries on the mainland, including the power sector and cement manufacture for the construction sector.

The Akonikien LNG project in Equatorial Guinea has 14,000 cubic meters of storage, and is part of the 'LNG2AFRICA' initiative that aims to supply LNG to other African countries with limited infrastructure.

Elite Construcciones said in the statement that the LNG project would provide 'clean and environmentally-friendly energy to countless people.'

ESC Engineers and Noordtec in their statement that the project shows a greater collaboration between German and African companies for work on an increasing number of key energy projects.
