German E.ON invests in 440-megawatt wind farm in Texas

- Construction of wind farm, with over $500 million investment, will start at the end of the year

German energy firm E.ON will build its largest single-phase onshore wind farm in the U.S., according to the company's recent statement.

Over $500 million has been invested in the 440-megawatt Big Raymond wind farm located in Willacy, Cameron and Hidalgo counties in Texas.

The project investment will be subject to a long-term power purchase agreement. E.ON has already sold the subscription rights for 200 megawatts of the plant for a period of 12 years to Austin Energy, the city’s community-owned electric utility.

'Construction will start at the end of the year. Together with the current wind- and photovoltaic-projects under construction, E.ON is currently implementing more than 900 megawatts of renewable energy in the U.S.,' the statement read.

E.ON has built more than 3,800 megawatts of solar, wind, and energy storage projects across the U.S. while others are in the preparatory phase.
