Gas transmission through both lines of the TurkStream natural gas pipeline restarted early on June 29 after halting on June 23 for the completion of annual maintenance, the project company, TurkStream, announced on Tuesday.
Gas deliveries from Anapa on Russia’s Black Sea coast at 5.00 local time in Turkey started transmission on Turkish territory through the first line at 9.00 and the second line at 10.00, according to the company's statement.
It was anticipated that annual maintenance would take six days but it was completed ahead of schedule on June 28.
During the shutdown, annual maintenance checks for the emergency response system, automation system and on relevant mechanical equipment were conducted at both the Anapa facility and the Kiyikoy facility in northwestern Turkey.
TurkStream consists of two 930-kilometer-long offshore lines stretching from Russia to Turkey across the Black Sea, and two separate onshore lines at lengths of 142 kilometers and 70 kilometers.
The project has a total capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters (bcm). The first line with a capacity of 15.75 bcm is designated for supplies to Turkey's domestic customers, and the second line, with another 15.75 bcm of capacity, carries Russian gas further to Europe through Bulgaria.
Commercial supplies via the gas pipeline commenced this year on Jan. 1.
