The share of Russian gas in Austria’s energy supplies reached the highest percentage in December 2023, at 98%, since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, international media reported the country’s energy minister as saying.
'The diversification of our gas imports is progressing far too slowly. In December 2023, a new record high share of Russian gas of 98% was registered,' Leonore Gewessler told a news conference, stressing that the figure is the highest since February 2022.
She said that Vienna needs to withdraw from agreements made by the nation's oil and gas company, OMV, for the delivery of Russian gas.
'Such developments prove that players on the liberalized gas market are not doing enough to reduce our dependency,' the minister added.
