The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) along with Garanti Bank will give a loan of 200 million Turkish (€48 million) for Turkey's natural gas distribution company Enerya, the EBRD announced on Wednesday.
The company will connect new households in 18 towns in eight provinces of Aksaray, Aydin, Denizli, Erzincan, Konya, Karaman, Nigde and Nevsehir to the gas grid by 2025.
Connecting 65,000 households in eight provinces will contribute to the Turkish government's plan to extend gas distribution throughout the country.
According to the statement, the investment will produce annual savings of 65,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent from 2022 onwards.
Enerya carries out natural gas distribution services in 11 Turkish provinces, including the major urban areas of Konya, Antalya and Denizli. As of 2016, the company reached over one million households, supplying 3.6 billion cubic meters of gas each year, the EBRD said.
In the past three years alone, with financing from the EBRD and local lenders, the company has connected almost 300,000 new households to the gas supply, the Bank noted.
