The total income of Norway's second-largest listed oil group, Aker BP, increased by around 5% in 2023 compared to 2022 to $13.67 billion, the company announced on Thursday.
Aker BP's earnings before interest and tax rose by 4.32% for the full year of 2023 to $12.29 billion, compared to $11.78 billion in 2022.
The company reported experiencing some 'operational challenges' in the second half of 2023, which included an unscheduled shutdown at its Alvheim field due to a malfunctioning piece of equipment that had been installed during maintenance.
Aker BP has seen a rise in capital spending to $5 billion this year from $3.3 billion last year.
According to Karl Johnny Hersvik, CEO of Aker BP, the company's field development projects are on track.
'The cost estimates remain unchanged, and we are one year closer to first oil and generating another wave of value creation for Aker BP and our stakeholders. Ultimately, we maintain our position as a leader in the E&P industry through high efficiency, low operational costs and low emissions,' he said.
'We ended the year on a strong note, successfully delivering on our targets despite experiencing some operational challenges in the second half,' he added.
