Total boosts US portfolio with large solar facility

- Solar energy facility consists of four large-scale solar projects, each with co-located battery energy storage systems

Total has acquired 2.2 gigawatts (GW) of solar projects, and 600 megawatts (MW) of battery storage assets, all located in Texas, the company announced in a statement on Friday.

The solar energy facility consists of four large-scale solar projects, each with co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS), in industrial areas close to Houston that have high electricity demand.

The company said the projects were bought from SunChase Power, a renewable energy company focused on developing utility-scale energy projects.

All projects will come online between 2023 and 2024, the company stated.

Total will commit to a 1 GW corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) sourced from this solar power and energy storage portfolio to cover all the electricity consumption of its operated industrial sites in the US.

Patrick Pouyanne, chairman and CEO of Total said the company is developing close to 4 GW of renewable power capacity in the US, and contributing to its objective of reaching close to 35 GW of renewable generation capacity by 2025.
