An energy company in southern Turkey was named as the country’s fastest-growing company, the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) reported on Tuesday.
Based in Turkey’s southern province of Kahramanmaras, Maren Maras Elektrik increased its sales revenue by 8,754 percent between 2011 and 2013, according to the “Turkey 100” list.
The 100 companies’ total revenue is $2.7 billion and their average revenue is $25 million per year.
According to Turkey 100 ranking, the second fastest growing company in Turkey is IT company Karbil Yazilim, which increased its sales revenues by 2.501 percent.
Emza Energy was the third with a 2.361 percent increase, while medical devices firm Lokman Hekim Saglik Hizmetleri was fourth with a 1.722 percent increase.
Istanbul was home to 45 companies in the Turkey 100 list and Ankara hosted 12 of the fastest-growing companies.
The list was compiled in cooperation with the U.S.-based ranking company All World Network and the Ankara based TEPAV, the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey.
Speaking at the award ceremony, TOBB President Rifat Hisarciklioglu said that Turkey has been confronted with a wave of “domestic and foreign origin terror attacks.”
“The economy is an important part of the fight against terrorism,” he said.
Noting that only eight companies were founded by women entrepreneurs, Hisarciklioglu said: “This number is not enough, we need to increase it.”
