Three subsidiaries of Turkish renewable energy company Naturel Holding achieved a top score in their environmental, social and governance (ESG) score targets for 2022, Natural Holding confirmed in a statement Friday.
Since 2021, the three subsidiaries, Naturel Yenilenebilir Enerji (Natural Renewable Energy), Esenboga Elektrik and Margun Enerji, have participated in ESG reporting, which discloses information about an organization's operations and risks in three areas: environmental stewardship, social responsibility and corporate governance.
The top-scoring companies are also listed in the BIST Sustainability Index, launched by Borsa Istanbul on Nov. 4 with the aim of guiding companies in the process of policymaking in consideration of environmental, social and governance risks. Borsa Istanbul also evaluates the ratings of the companies to be included in the index, together with global financial market data and infrastructure provider Refinitiv.
According to the parent firm, the group intends to contribute to energy sector reform through solar power with the objective of 'a cleaner, more livable world' for a sustainable future.
Naturel Holding stressed that the three companies, while cooperating with global and national stakeholders in line with their sustainability goals and strategies for the 2022–2026 period, also became UN Global Compact members and UN Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI) signatories.
Naturel Holding's energy companies also measure the carbon emissions arising from their activities and are working towards a net zero carbon target in 2024.
The subsidiaries also aim to expand the scope of projects to develop effective corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability projects across the country.
Naturel Holding companies receive consultancy services from leading sustainability consultancy company Escarus by determining sustainability goals and strategies of the group with sustainability committees while ensuring the integration of ESG criteria into all processes.
