Türkiye's natural gas imports increased by 7.5% in November 2023 compared to the same month in 2022, according to data from Türkiye's energy watchdog on Wednesday.
Natural gas imports in November increased to around 4.43 billion cubic meters (bcm) from approximately 4.12 bcm in the same month of 2022, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
According to EMRA data, the country imported approximately 3.57 bcm of natural gas via pipelines in November 2023, while 861 million cubic meters (mcm) were purchased as LNG. This represents a 51% decrease in pipeline imports and a 51% increase in LNG imports.
Russia was the majority supplier, providing 2.3 bcm of natural gas to Türkiye, while Azerbaijan and Iran followed with 685 mcm and 682 mcm, respectively.
The country's total gas consumption also decreased by 26.5% to approximately 3.40 bcm compared to the same month in 2022.
Household consumption dropped by 26% to 756 mcm, and gas consumption in power plants decreased by 5.6% to 789 bcm during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in November 2023 increased by 1.1% to around 5.33 bcm, compared to 5.27 bcm in October 2022.
