The Nordex Group received an order to supply a further 29 wind turbines from the N131/3900 series for the 245.7-megawatt (MW) Sywash wind farm project in Ukraine, the German manufacturer announced Friday.
In February, the group reported the order to supply the first 34 turbines with a total capacity of 132.6 MW for Syvash, marking the company's entry into the Ukrainian market. After its completion in 2020, Syvash is set to be the largest wind farm in the country.
According to the statement, Nordex’ contract partner Powerchina Ltd. will build the wind farm in the Kherson region on the north shore of Lake Syvash.
The farm will be built for the local project company SyvashEnergoProm, which is a joint venture between Norwegian project developer NBT AS and Total Eren, a leading France-based renewable energy independent power producer.
The electricity generated from Syvash will be sold to state-owned company Energorynok, which operates Ukraine's wholesale electricity market.
Once the entire wind farm is completed, it will feed 840,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity per year into the grid and can supply the needs of approximately 100,000 households, according to the press release.
It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 465,000 tonnes per year.
