The Polish energy company ORLEN will introduce two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels to its fleet at the beginning of next year, the company announced Wednesday.
In a company statement, it said a naming ceremony was held in Ulsan, South Korea, for the two LNG ships ordered, which will bring the number of LNG tankers in the fleet to eight by the end of 2025.
'ORLEN, which has its own LNG ship fleet, will be able to efficiently manage shipments to Poland and strengthen its position in the global LNG market,' the statement read.
The new additions are part of a consistently applied LNG import strategy to diversify oil and natural gas supplies in the country, where 100% of its gas is imported from outside Russia.
'The shipments currently meet about 30% of our country's demand. LNG supply is secured not only through contracts but also by developing our own fleet. These ships, built for our private use, ensure the stability of transportation and strengthen the company's position in the global LNG market,' said Daniel Obajtek, ORLEN's CEO.
The first ship has been named Lech Kaczynski in commemoration of the death of the former president Kaczynski, who died in an aircraft crash in 2010, and the second, Grazyna Gesicka, was named in honor of the death of the Minister of Regional Development in Kaczynski's government, who also died in the same accident.
