Russia extends gasoline export ban till end of October

- Russia's deputy energy minister says ban on gasoline export will remain in place in August

Russia extended the ban on gasoline exports until the end of October, Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin confirmed on Wednesday.

The decision to protract the ban from August up to October was due to Russia's desire to avoid problems in the fuel market in the coming months, Sorokin said during a speech at the State Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament.

However, a ban on diesel fuel is not on the agenda, he added.

Last week, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that a ban on gasoline exports would be reinstated as of August 1.

Gasoline prices in Russia surged with drone attacks on oil refineries and increased demand, particularly in agriculture. To mitigate price spikes, the government occasionally imposes export restrictions.

Earlier in the year Russia had announced a six-month ban on gasoline exports, effective March 1.
