Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) and Eolien Maritime France (EMF) consortium signed a framework agreement to supply and service offshore wind turbines of 1 gigawatt capacity for two of EMF's three French offshore wind projects, SGRE announced Tuesday.
Currently under development, both projects were awarded to EMF -- consisting of EDF Renewables and Enbridge -- in France's first offshore wind tender in 2012, and are expected to use SWT-7.0-154 DD offshore wind turbines, according to SGRE's press release. The turbines are designed for high output and are suitable for extreme offshore conditions.
The statement did not mention the details of the projects to be supplied by SGRE. However, EMF's winning projects comprise the 498-megawatt (MW) Fecamp in Seine-Maritime, the 450-MW Courseulles-sur-Mer in Calvados, and the 480-MW Saint-Nazaire in Loire-Atlantique, according to the website of the French Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition.
The agreement also includes a future provision for Siemens Gamesa to service the turbines for a period of up to 15 years. Both the supply and service of the wind turbines is still subject to contract and final investment decision.
According to the statement, SGRE's planned offshore wind turbine manufacturing facility currently under development in the Port of Le Havre will produce the turbines for the consortium's projects.
