Turkey's energy import bill up 41 percent in July

- Country's total imports cost nearly $20.6 billion, with energy accounting for 20.4 percent, TurkStat data reveals

Turkey's energy import bill increased by 41 percent to nearly $4.1 billion in July from nearly $2.9 billion for the same month last year, according to Turkish Statistical Institute's (TurkStat) data released Wednesday.

The data shows that Turkey's overall import bill reached $20.6 billion last month, with energy accounting for 20.4 percent.

The country's crude oil imports showed a 5.76 percent increase over the same period compared to July 2017, TurkStat said.

Turkey imported approximately 2.27 million tons of crude oil last month, up from 2.15 million tons for the same period last year.
