Türkiye’s energy giant Tupras announced Thursday that it has lost contact with a vessel transporting around 140,000 tonnes of crude oil off the coast of Oman.
'Communication with the Marshall Islands-flagged ship named St. Nikolas, owned by the Greek shipowner Empire Navigation, was lost off the coast of Oman,” Tupras said.
The crude oil on board was purchased from the Iraqi state oil company SOMO and was on its way from the Basra Port for delivery to Turpras’ refinery, it said.
However, the energy giant gave reassurances that there has been no impact on oil transit.
'All our refinery operations are continuing as planned, and the incident has no impact on our refinery operations,' Tupras said in a statement.
Tupras is monitoring the developments in cooperation with national and international authorities, it added.
