Switzerland's largest producer of renewable energy, Axpo, and Australian renewable hydrogen company Infinite Green Energy (IGE) teamed up for a 30-megawatt (MW) project in Italy’s central Abruzzo region, the Swiss company announced on Tuesday.
Axpo and IGE signed a Joint Development Agreement for the Valle Peligna Hydrogen Project, the company said in a statement.
Using existing industrial facilities in Corfinio, the companies will produce and supply up to 12 tonnes of hydrogen daily, with the aim of cutting carbon emissions in hard-to-decarbonize industries, the statement added.
“The project includes a 30 MW electrolyser powered by a 45 MWp (megawatt peak) solar plant, making it one of the largest hydrogen plants in Italy,” it said.
The Italian mega plant, among the largest commercial green hydrogen facilities in Italy, will fuel both the industrial and transportation sectors.
By the second half of 2025, the facility will also provide green electricity to the local grid, the statement said.
