Shell will partner with QatarEnergy for the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in the sector's history, the company announced Tuesday.
The companies will partner in the North Field East expansion project in Qatar, where Shell will hold a 25% share in a joint venture company that will own 25% of the North Field East expansion project.
The expansion comprises four mega LNG trains with a combined LNG capacity of 32 million tonnes per year.
Carbon capture and sequestration will also be integrated into the project to reduce emissions.
'This landmark project will help provide LNG that the world urgently needs with a lower carbon footprint,' said Shell Chief Executive Officer Ben van Beurden.
