China's natural gas imports up 11% in April

- China's energy production also on rise in first four months of year

The production of energy resources in China continued to rise in April, with natural gas imports increasing by 11% month over month to 8.9 million tons, data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday showed.

On a monthly basis, coal production increased in April by 4.5% to 380 million tons, while crude oil production rose by 1.4% to 17.2 million tons. Natural gas production also rose by 7% to 18.9 billion cubic meters compared to March.

Coal imports in April showed a sizable increase of 72.7% to 40.6 million tons, and natural gas imports registered a modest increase of 11%, although imports of crude oil fell by 1.4% to 42.4 million tons.

According to the data, coal production increased by 4.8% to 1.5 million tons year over year, crude oil production increased by 1.8% to 69.6 million tons and natural gas production increased by 4.8% to 78.2 million tons in the January-April period this year.

Coal imports from January to April were recorded at 140 million tons, marking an 88.8% increase, while crude oil imports saw an increase of 4.6% to 178.7 million tons, and natural gas fell by 0.3% to 35.6 million tons.
