French energy company Engie has been granted a permit to drill a wildcat well in the Norwegian Sea, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) on Tuesday
NPD said that the French energy firm received the permission for well drilling approximately 55 kilometers southwest of Floro, the westernmost town of Norway.
Engie is the operator with an ownership interest of 30 percent while other shareholders include Idemitsu Petroleum with a 30 percent interest, Wellesley Petroleum and Tullow Oil with a 20 percent share each.
Production license 636, awarded on Feb. 3, 2012, is the first well to be drilled in the license area.
The permit is contingent on the operator securing all permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing the drilling activity.
