Russian energy giant Gazprom has filed a lawsuit against two Polish energy companies, seeking damages amounting to approximately $935 million.
The legal action was initiated in the St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region Arbitration Court against Polish companies Orlen and Europol Gaz. The specific reasons behind the lawsuit have not been disclosed.
The move comes amid the ongoing tensions between Gazprom and Poland, which have been escalating over energy supply and payment disagreements.
The dispute dates back to 2022 when Gazprom stopped the supply of Russian gas to Poland. The cessation came after Poland refused to pay for gas in rubles, a demand that Gazprom had started enforcing amid a backdrop of international sanctions and economic pressures.
In a retaliatory measure, the Polish government transferred Gazprom's share in Europol Gaz, the operator of the strategic Yamal-Europe pipeline, to the Polish energy company Orlen.
