Russian energy company Gazprom exported 22.7 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas to China via its Power of Siberia pipeline last year, marking a 47.4% rise compared to the previous year, the company announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The Russian energy giant Gazprom shipped 15.4 bcm of natural gas to China, Gazprom's main strategic partner in Asia, in 2022.
The Power of Siberia is a Gazprom-operated pipeline, built in Eastern Siberia between 2015 and 2019, which transports natural gas from Russia's region of Yakutia to China.
The company also noted that 700 million cubic meters of gas exports to China via the pipeline was above contractual obligations.
Gas shipments to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline will reach a new level in 2024 in line with the contracts, according to Gazprom's statement.
While the annual capacity of the Power of Siberia pipeline is planned to reach 38 bcm in 2025, Gazprom aims to increase the volume of natural gas shipments to China to around 100 bcm with the construction of the Power of Siberia 2 line.
Russian energy giant Gazprom aims to increase supplies to Asian markets, particularly China, as gas exports to Europe have dropped sharply due to sanctions imposed on Russia over the Ukraine war.
