Petrofac's Engineering & Production Services (EPS) East division secured an operations and maintenance support services contract with Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG, the British oilfield services provider announced Thursday.
The 13-month contract is in support of the development and operation of the TAP natural gas pipeline, which will bring Caspian natural gas to Europe, a statement read.
The scope of services includes provision of specialist personnel to support the project with operations and maintenance, technical services, environmental and safety requirements, along with transition plans through to operations.
Petrofac's team will be co-located with the TAP project team at their headquarters in Baar, Switzerland.
TAP's shareholders comprise BP, Azerbaijan's state-run oil company SOCAR, Italian gas company Snam, Belgian gas transmission system operator (TSO) Fluxys, Spanish energy company and TSO Enagas and Swiss energy company Axpo.
The 878-km gas transportation infrastructure will connect with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Greek-Turkish border and cross Northern Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea before coming ashore in southern Italy to connect to the Italian natural gas network.
The project's construction started in 2016, and is 81.8 percent completed as of the end of October, according to the project's website.
Once built, TAP will offer a direct and cost-effective transportation route opening up the vital Southern Gas Corridor, a 3,500-km long gas value chain stretching from the Caspian Sea to Europe.
