Russia stopped gas deliveries through one of the main gas pipelines to Europe starting Wednesday for three days due to repairs on its only remaining compressor, the Nord Stream AG company announced Wednesday.
On Aug. 19, Russian gas company Gazprom announced that natural gas supplies would be stopped for three days from Aug. 31 due to maintenance on a single compressor unit operating on the Nord Stream line.
'Shipments via Nord Stream have been completely halted and scheduled maintenance work on the natural gas compressor unit will begin today [Wednesday],' Gazprom conveyed in a statement.
On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov blamed European politicians for the halt in gas deliveries due to sanctions, saying citizens had to pay a high price from the actions taken by European politicians.
Gazprom had cut the quantity of natural gas sent via the pipeline by around 80% as some sections could not operate due to sanctions.
