Israeli natural gas should go through Turkey to Europe, Turkish Energy Minister said on Wednesday.
In an exclusive interview with the Anadolu Agency Editors' Desk, Ali Riza Alaboyun, Turkey's energy and natural resources minister said that a feasible way of carrying natural gas from Israel to Europe is through Turkey.
Commenting on the recently discovered natural gas fields on the coast of Egypt and Israel, Alaboyun said that even though there are no official negotiations with the countries involved with the hydrocarbon fields, there is still an interest from the private sector in terms of carrying gas from the region to Europe through Turkey.
“Turkey is surrounded by 70 percent natural gas reserves,” he said adding that Turkey has the infrastructure and technological experience to perform this task.
He stated that transferring gas through Turkey would be significant in encouraging regional peace.
On Sept. 9, Italian oil company ENI announced that the company discovered a giant natural gas field in the Mediterranean Sea off the Egyptian coast.
