Türkiye's natural gas imports decreased by 4.45% in August compared to the same month in 2022, according to data from Türkiye's energy watchdog on Friday.
Natural gas imports in August fell to around 3.68 billion cubic meters (bcm) from approximately 3.85 bcm in the same month of 2022, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
According to EMRA data, the country imported approximately 3.28 bcm of natural gas via pipelines in August while 399.8 million cubic meters (mcm) were purchased as LNG. This represented a 7.74% decrease in pipeline imports and a 35.02% increase in LNG imports.
Russia was the majority supplier, providing 2.26 bcm of natural gas to Türkiye, while Azerbaijan and Algeria followed with 937.7 mcm and 399.8 mcm, respectively.
However, gas imports from Iran decreased by 91.83% in August while imports from Russia, Azerbaijan and Algeria increased by 7.42%, 74.04%, and 35.02%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
The country's total gas consumption also fell by 1.04% to approximately 3.50 bcm compared to the same month in 2022.
Household consumption grew by 11.87% to 277 mcm, and the use of gas in power plants declined by 4.88% to 1.64 bcm during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in August increased by 41.61% to around 5.25 bcm, compared to 3.71 bcm in August 2022.
