Senvion, Toshiba Energy sign wind cooperation deal

- Alliance will see companies market, sell, install and operate Senvion wind turbines in Japan

Senvion and Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) signed a cooperation agreement to market, sell, install and operate Senvion wind turbines in Japan, the two companies announced Monday.

'Under the terms of the mutually non-exclusive Cooperation Agreement, Toshiba ESS will be responsible for the customer interface and installation, with Senvion providing the turbine technology, operation and maintenance services and technical support,' a joint statement read.

The companies will initially focus on the onshore and offshore wind market in Japan, according to the announcement.

David Hardy, executive director and CSO of Senvion said the two companies would work together to deliver tailored wind energy solutions in Japan.

'The strategic alliance will leverage the established reputation of Toshiba ESS and Senvion's high-performing technology, to accelerate our expansion into the Asia-Pacific region,' he added.

Fumio Otani, corporate senior vice president, who is responsible for the wind power business of Toshiba ESS, described Senvion as 'a logical partner with a proven track record of delivery in Japan and the right technology and service solutions for the Japanese market'.

'We are excited about this new agreement with Senvion, which will mean that we are strategically placed to increase our share of the wind energy market in Japan,' he said.

According to the press release, Hamburg-based Senvion has installed 17 wind farms, with another three projects currently under construction in Japan since 2003.
