Royal Dutch Shell reported a profit of more than $18 billion in the second quarter of 2022 compared to a $3.4 billion gain in the same quarter of last year, according to its financial results statement released Thursday.
The company's second-quarter income was over 154% higher than its $7.1 billion earnings during the previous quarter.
Shell increased its gains by 177% in the first half of the year compared to the same period of last year. It recorded a $25.15 billion gain in the first half of 2022, relative to $9.08 billion profit during the January-June period of 2021.
The company's revenue for the April-June period was $100 billion, up from about $84.2 billion during the last quarter and up from $60.5 billion in the same quarter of 2021.
The company’s half-year revenue also increased to $184.2 billion in the first half of 2022 from nearly $116.2 billion during the same period of 2021.
Ben van Beurden, Shell CEO, spoke in his keynote speech during the quarterly results presentation of the turbulent quarter for the world and the global economy.
“The war in Ukraine continued, destroying lives and disrupting supplies of food and energy and aggravating the lives of so many more through high energy prices and the cost-of-living crisis,” he said.
Beurden, speaking on the governments’ energy policies affecting long-term investment planning, said they need “reliable policies that ensure a stable supply of energy products today and significant investments in the energy system of tomorrow.”
