Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will supply wind turbines for ReNew Power's two projects in India with a total capacity of 567 megawatts (MW), the company announced Thursday.
Placed by India's largest renewable energy Independent Power Producer, the order includes the supply of 270 units of the SG 2.1-122 wind turbine.
As per the agreement with ReNew, one of the largest announced in India, Siemens Gamesa will supply, install and commission 127 SG 2.1-122 wind turbines for the project in Bhuj, Gujarat and 143 of the same wind turbine for the other project in Davanagree, Karnataka.
Commissioning of both projects is expected by the first quarter of 2020.
According to the statement, with over 1 gigawatt (GW) of contracted capacity of wind projects for ReNew Power, SGRE has been a consistent renewable energy partner to the Indian company since 2012.
'We are happy to announce this deal with ReNew. It marks a major milestone for Siemens Gamesa in India, with both the size of the project and the technology,' said Ramesh Kymal, Onshore CEO of Siemens Gamesa in India.
India ranks fourth in the world in terms of installed wind power capacity, according to the Global Wind Energy Council.
The onshore potential in the country stands at 300 GW of which only 35 GW has been tapped, the statement said, adding the Indian government has established a target to reach 65 GW of cumulative wind power capacity by 2022.
Present in India since 2009, the accumulated base installed by Siemens Gamesa recently topped the 5.5 GW mark. The company has two blade factories, one nacelle factory and an operations and maintenance center in the country.
