Türkiye's upcoming first nuclear power plant's project company Akkuyu Nuclear JSC on Wednesday announced that Anton Dedusenko is appointed as the new chairman of the board while Sergei Butckikh will serve as the general manager.
The announcement came after a monthly meeting at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) site under the coordination of the Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, the company said in a statement.
Dedusenko previously served as deputy chairman of the company and Butckikh was the first deputy CEO of the company and director of the Akkuyu NPP.
During the meeting, which was attended by the managers of primary contractor companies, the project's current status was discussed as well as the progress and roadmap related to the project's future.
Yusuf Ceylan, general manager of nuclear energy and international projects at the ministry, welcomed the recent appointments, the statement added.
Nuclear energy plays an important role in reaching Türkiye's 2053 net zero emissions target. To this end, the country plans to build nuclear power plants in two other locations after Akkuyu, which is under construction in the Mediterranean province of Mersin.
An intergovernmental agreement was signed between Russia and Türkiye in May 2010 for Akkuyu NPP. The plant will consist of four VVER-1200 power units with a total installed capacity of 4,800 megawatts. The foundation for the first unit of the plant was laid in 2018.
