The production of a set of steam generators for the first unit of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is now complete, the reactor's manufacturer Atomenergomash announced on Monday.
Atommash, the Volgodonsk branch of AEM-technology, which operates alongside Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation's (Rosatom) machine-building division of Atomenergomash, completed the manufacture of the four steam generators.
The entire production cycle, which included the installation of steam generators and a series of control measures, lasted about two years.
One of the important stages in production, which took 22 days, involved the laying of 11 thousand stainless steel heat exchange pipes with a total length of approximately 125 kilometers.
A total of 415 control operations were carried out for each steam generator.
One power unit includes four steam generators, each with a diameter of more than 4 meters, a length of 15 meters and a weight of 340 tons.
An intergovernmental agreement was signed between Turkey and Russia in May 2010 for the Akkuyu NPP, which will house four VVER-1200 power units with a total installed capacity of 4,800 megawatts.
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin presided over the plant's groundbreaking ceremony held on April 3, 2018, via a videoconference call from Ankara.
The first reactor of the plant is planned to be operational in 2023.
