The number of oil rigs, an indicator of short-term production in the country, fell by 1 to reach 188 for the week ending June 26, from 189 the previous week.
In the past 15 weeks, the decline in US oil rig count totaled 495, according to the data.
At Friday's close, price of international benchmark Brent crude stood at $40.73 per barrel, while American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was at $38.20 a barrel.
