A leak on one of the two lines of Druzhba pipeline was detected, carrying crude oil from Russia to Europe, Polish pipeline operator PERN said Wednesday.
'Late on Tuesday evening, PERN's automation systems detected a leak in the Druzhba pipeline on one of the two lines of the western section - about 70 kilometers from PÅ‚ock,' the statement said.
The operator noted that the causes of the incident are unknown, while the second line of the pipeline and other elements of PERN's infrastructure operates normally.
'At this point, all PERN services (technical, operational, in-house fire brigade and environmental protection) are taking action in accordance with the algorithms provided for this type of situation,' it explained.
PERN noted that the rescue services of PERN and the State Fire Service immediately went to the scene to assess the situation, secure the area and start rescue operations.
Druzhba pipeline transports Russian oil to refineries in Poland, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia.
