TotalEnergies, Corio Generation and Qair have been pre-selected by the French Directorate General for Energy and Climate (DGEC) to participate in a tender to develop two floating windfarms in the Mediterranean Sea, the companies announced in a joint statement Wednesday.
The two projects with a capacity of about 250 megawatts are projected to power almost one million people with clean energy.
“The TotalEnergies, Corio Generation and Qair consortium is delighted with this new call for tenders, which will help to achieve France’s objective of 40 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2050,” the statement read.
The three companies expressed willingness to support the development of a local Mediterranean industrial value chain for offshore wind power by consulting regional stakeholders to promote the local economy and ensure communities benefit from employment opportunities.
The statement also said the consortium would leverage each company’s technical expertise, strong financial resources and extensive experience in the offshore wind sector.
As a multi-energy company, with expertise in offshore operations and maintenance through its historical activities, TotalEnergies is already developing offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of more than 11 gigawatts, including more than 2 gigawatts of floating projects in France, the UK and South Korea.
Corio Generation, a global specialist offshore wind developer, has more than 20 gigawatts of projects under development worldwide, including 2.5 gigawatts of floating wind power.
Qair, meanwhile, is a European renewable energy producer and a French pioneer in floating wind energy with over 30 years of experience, operating 1 gigawatt of assets and developing a pipeline of 20 gigawatts.
The consortium had previously partnered for several projects, including a 250-gigawatt floating windfarm tender in France’s South Brittany region, a 30-gigawatt Eolmed floating offshore wind pilot project in France and over 2 gigawatts of floating wind projects in South Korea, among others.
