US oil rig count rises by four for week ending Oct. 9

- Number of oil rigs in US declined by a total of 519 from year ago

The oil rig count in the US increased this week, according to the latest data released by oilfield services company Baker Hughes on Friday.

The number of oil rigs, an indicator of short-term production in the country, rose by four to 193 for the week ending Oct. 9, from 189 the previous week.

With that result, the number of oil rigs in the US declined by a total of 519 from a year ago.

At Friday's close, price of international benchmark Brent crude stood at $42.80 per barrel, while American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was at $40.55 a barrel.
