The Houthi group in Yemen released a video on Thursday evening showing a British oil tanker being targeted in the Red Sea, west of Yemen, with a thick black cloud of smoke spreading across the sky.
The video, which was shared by the group's military media on the platform X, purportedly shows an attack on the British oil tanker Cordelia Moon.
According to the Houthis, the attack was carried out using a drone boat as part of their 'military operations against American and British ships' and as a continuation of their 'naval blockade on the Israeli enemy.'
Earlier this week, the Houthis claimed responsibility for three attacks in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean. One of the targeted vessels was Cordelia Moon, which the group said sustained “severe damage.”
As of now, there has been no official response from the UK regarding the Houthi’s claim.
The group leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said earlier on Thursday that Israel and the US had conducted 39 strikes on Yemen during the week.
Since the beginning of 2024, a coalition led by the US has been conducting airstrikes in Yemen, claiming to be targeting Houthi locations in response to attacks by the group in the Red Sea.
The counterattacks have been occasionally met with retaliation from the group.
The Houthis have been targeting Israeli-linked cargo ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been under an Israeli onslaught since Oct. 7 last year.
