-Russia closely follows attacks on Saudi Aramco
The drone and missile attacks on the oil facilities of Saudi Arabia’s national oil company, Saudi Aramco - one of the largest oil producers worldwide - were among the top topics discussed in Russia last week.
The U.S. and ally Saudi Arabia blamed Iran for the attacks, however, Iran strongly denied any involvement.
Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks. 'We do not find it right to use the incident in a way that will further strengthen the well-known approach of United States against Iran,” the ministry’s statement read.
Meanwhile, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said Russia could soon increase its own security measures due to the attacks.
'The attack affects global energy security. The interrupted supply of oil can be met from global commercial reserves, but everything depends on the comprehensive assessment after the attack,' he said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also held a telephone conversation with Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud to discuss the aftermath of the attacks.
Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis implied in a written statement that they had organized the attacks on the two plants.
In Yemen, where there has been long-term political instability, clashes have ensued between the Houthis and the government-dependent forces that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates support.
