Italian energy giant Eni announced a new oil discovery and production in the South West Meleiha Concession, in the Western Desert of Egypt, some 130 kilometers north of the Siwa Oasis, the company announced on Tuesday.
Production in the concession started just one year ago and now runs in excess of 12,000 billion barrels of oil per day (bpd).
The new well has been drilled close to the existing production facilities and is already connected to the production network.
'The production from South West Meleiha Concession began in July 2019 and in just one year ramped up to 12,000 bpd thanks to the contribution of new discoveries,' a company statement read.
Eni, which has a presence in Egypt since 1954, is implementing its near-field exploration strategy in the Egyptian Western Desert through AGIBA, a joint venture with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).
