Russian energy company Lukoil discovered a large gas field in the Lira offshore structure, located in the deep sea of Romania's offshore, the company announced on Wednesday.
According to seismic data, the area of the field can reach up to 39 square kilometers and reserves could exceed 30 billion cubic meters of gas, which has yet to be confirmed during evaluation drilling.
Lukoils' share in the project is 72 percent while the U.S.' PanAtlantic Petroleum owns 18 percent and Romanian company Societatea Nationale de Gaze Naturale Romgaz owns the remaining 10 percent share.
'The program of future works planned for 2016 includes drilling an exploration well at the Lira and the reprocessing of seismic data to confirm the size of the discovery and precise assessment of its potential hydrocarbon reserves,' Lukoil said in a written announcement.
