The German retail sales increased 0.2% from a month ago in September, in line with market expectations, according to official data released on Friday.
The growth came after a downwardly revised 0.5% monthly fall in August, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) data showed.
Food sales rose 0.3% month-on-month in September, while non-food retail sales dropped 0.6%.
On a yearly basis, the retail sales also increased 0.2% in the same month.
Both food and non-food retail sales increased 0.2% in September on an annual basis.
In e-commerce and mail orders, retail sales recorded a monthly rise of 0.4% and a yearly climb of 3.7% in September.
