ANKARA
The Israeli forces on Wednesday morning killed a young Palestinian man and injured and arrested others during raids in several areas of Nablus city in the northern West Bank, according to the official news agency Wafa.
An Israeli undercover force infiltrated the Al-Ain refugee camp in western Nablus, and opened fire on a car, resulting in the death of a passerby, the Palestinian broadcaster reported.
“The victim’s body was seized by the Israeli army,” Nablus Governor Ghassan Daghlas told Anadolu.
Following the raid, clashes erupted in the camp, where three Palestinians were injured by Israeli army fire.
According to Wafa, Israeli forces stormed several homes and arrested several people in the camp.
Daghlas, the Nablus governor, said the Israeli army turned several homes in the camp into military outposts after forcing their residents to leave.
Israeli forces also stormed other areas in Nablus, including the Balata and Askar refugee camps and the Masaken al-Sha'abi neighborhood in eastern Nablus.
The raids came as the Israeli army has continued its military offensive in the northern West Bank since Jan. 21, killing over 70 Palestinians and displacing thousands. The assault came as the army renewed deadly airstrikes on Gaza on Tuesday, killing more than 400 people, injuring hundreds, and shattering a ceasefire deal with Hamas that took hold in January.
Tension has been running high across the occupied West Bank, where at least 937 Palestinians have been killed and over 7,000 injured in attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers since the start of the Gaza onslaught on Oct. 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
In July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s longstanding occupation of Palestinian territories illegal, calling for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
